Gaelyn- Viva Vicks! Always brings back my childhood, though we never put it on our feet. I'm still whacked and the house is a mess, but I hope to me back on track soon. Thanks!

Babs- I've practically been hibernating, but I still crave more sleep. I am so grateful that the cleaning lady comes tomorrow, this place is a disaster area!

IslaZina- It always seems to be flu city after a storm, just another reason to hate those hurricanes! Ida didn't deserve our respect, lol. ;-)

IslaGringo- Thank you, in my whiniest sicky moments I say to hubby "Can't you just say 'pobrecita' and look at me pityingly?" The hot n sour isn't worth a trip, it just barely satisfies the craving. It's not horrid, just not like the soup of my memories. Hope your health is better sir!

PuertoVallartaGirl- Eating it? Ew. Hubby has rubbed it on the inside of his throat when he is aching, gack! Love the comparisons to Windex in MBFGW, so true!

Jonna- Eek, getting Vicks instead of Vaseline sounds like an urban legend, haha! I think that's something you only do once. I think the first time I read about Vicks for crime scenes was in Silence of the Lambs, makes "scents" to me. BTW, fabulous use of the word "ralphing", haven't heard that in a long time, made me laugh!

Refried Dreamer- Sorry to hear you guys got it too, seems to be that time of year. Hope you kick it soon, why not give the Vicks a try? 100 million Mexicans can't be wrong... ;-)

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone. I tried to go into work today but they sent me home again. I was pouring with sweat but freezing cold, I think the trembling scared everyone. :) On the road to wellness I hope!

I swear by Vicks. Seriously, I have eaten it when I had a sore throat. Soles of the feet, side of the head, in and on the nose, lips, almost everywhere but I do have a funny story about a friend who grabbed for the vaseline and got the vicks in the dark instead... not good.

I think it is the AC that makes you sick and especially going in and out of it. I hope you are better now and the worst is over.

Oh, another Vicks fact, all cops carry it because there is nothing better for blocking out disgusting smells (like dead things) than a nose full of vicks. Seriously, it can keep you from embarrassing yourself at a murder scene. There's nothing worse than ralphing on the evidence.

My Puerto Rican mother-in-law swore by Vicks also. I slipped on the tile floor and cut myself on the corner of a table, and she wanted me to use Vicks on the cut but I didn't try it. That was after the day I had a headache and before I knew it she had smeared Vicks all over my forehead. I don't remember if my headache went away or not because I think I was too PO'd at trying to wash the grease out of my bangs for the next week. I was 18 then. I would try it now for sure.

I remember the first time Miguel told me he wanted to buy some Vig-bah-poh-roo (that's how it sounded to me - sort of like the bubuluu gum). I had no idea what he was talking about until he picked up the jar - Vick's-va-pour-rub. Ok.

I wish you lived here on the island. When I don't feel well, it's chicken soup from Familia Tomasa - great broth with soft pasta noodles. Add a fresh barillo or some tostadas, and I'm on the road to health.

Grandma was right afterall - Vick's and chicken noodle soup will cure you.

Ay amiga, sorry to hear you're not feeling well. Actually, I'd never heard of the Vaporub remedy on feet thing, although everything else, yeah, we pretty much kept healthy on Vic Vaporub when I was growing up.

Hubby caught a nasty cold from all the temp changes during our vacations, so I'm following your advice and heading out to the pharmacy to get some magic Vaporub to rub on his feet!!

LMAO!!! I always, and I do mean always, carry a little container of Vaporub in my purse. One of my NOB friends jokes that we are just like the family in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding". Only we rely on Vicks and not Windex! :D

The Vicks works on anything. Rub it on your feet when you're feeling sick. That practice is believed to calm symptoms and heal a terrible cough. We put it on everything from bee stings to mosquito bites. Heck, my sister-in-law swears that Vaporub topped with a sprinkling of cornstarch is the perfect cure for Diaper rash! :D

Vicks is a miracle gel. My Mom used to put the stuff up my nose when i had a cold, plus everywhere else you mention except the soles of feet which makes perfect sense to me. Hope your back to good soon. In the mean time, sleep glorious sleep. Screw the housework.

Those OLD remedies do work! And yes that includes Vicks on the feet & chest. I'm a believer in Vicks, herbal tea w/honey and of course chicken soup. If only I were still there .. homemade chicken soup is good for the soul. Get well soon amiga!
