Yeehaw, I's Going to Americuh!

Soooo, I am going to little bro's wedding!!! Flight to Los Angeles is booked for October 24th, I am really excited, I can't wait to see the family but I must admit to being nervous about going NOB (north of border). It's been four years since I last left Mexico. Four years living simply, four years of living life outside the house in Spanish, four years without setting foot in Target, four years wearing twenty peso chanklas (flip flops) instead of shoes, four years without a York Peppermint Patty (they better still make them!), four years putting the toilet paper in the bin instead of the potty, four years since I've listened to an English radio station. I think I am in for some culture shock! I've never seen a Blackberry, don't really know what a Bluetooth is (is it painful?) and Wii Fit just sounds like bad grammar. I almost feel like I will be stepping into a time machine set for the future. I've been told that Triscuits now come in different flavours, what's up with that? I've been studying the Urban Dictionary, a girl's got to understand the "hip" slang of the day (umm, I guess "hip" isn't really "hip" anymore, is it?).

I have it in my head that I am going to step off the plane and turn into a yokel, head turning this way and that, saying "Gee Ma, will you looky there? Shiny!" and clucking my tongue about the gosh durn prices (and converting into pesos). People will point and laugh at my denim short shorts and tank top and my woven Mexican luggage. Maybe someone will see me in the airport and offer me one of those 24 hour makeovers for a reality show, just because they feel sorry for me. (Now that would be swell! Errr, "swell"? Need to keep studying..)

Ok ok, I am exaggerating a bit. Overreacting maybe. I have a real suitcase and some long pants to wear. But I guess I should find some shoes that aren't made of plastic. I do feel insecure about the whole thing, I mean my brother is a fashion designer in Los Angeles and lives two blocks from Britney Spears, I am going to be a bit out of my league.

So, if you are in Los Angeles at that time and you see a crazy Canadian woman running screaming out of Ralph's because the selection was overwhelming, please say hello and give me a paper bag to breathe into!

Am I feeling a tad bit insecure? Yes, yes indeedy-do I am. Breathing in......breathing out.....I'm ok, you're ok, and gosh darn it, I like me! (Yep, definitely need to update my cultural references....)

What Heather said!! It's one of my home towns, plastic shoes are always in. I can't imagine the cool clothes your brother will outfit you with. Have fun, SHOP till you drop, have some wonderful Cal-Mex food and California Fusion cuisine too.

I'm so glad you get to go to the wedding, that's really wonderful. Enjoy chica. It's the best city in the USA.

Depending on where you go in LA, there are parts of LA that look more like Mexico than Cancun!

KW- LOL, yes, L.A. is strange, something I love about that town. I am grateful to mom and dad who found the pesos to buy me a ticket, I guess they figured they spent a whack o'money on my first wedding, only fair to do the same for bro. :)

Jorge- Por que?? Quiero ver a Mickey!!

Brenda- Thanks, I know I am making myself anxious for nothing, it will be a great time.

American Mommy- Four years feels like forever, I know I will have a wee bit of culture shock for sure! Will let everyone know how it goes.

Heather- Oh man, I wish I was going to have time to meet up, but I am only going to be there for two short days! Sucks to go for such a short time, but it was the only way to work it. Arrive Friday night, leave Monday morning, so we'll be all about wedding and family unfortunately. :(

Jonna- The shopping is what scares me, lol, I'm afraid I'll be overwhelmed with choices and come home with a bunch of crap, teehee. I am thrilled to be going to the wedding, I am happy for both of them and for our family.

Anon- Teehee, true, true, I guess if I really want some tacos and some Spanish conversation, it won't be that hard to find.

My3Ros- I wish I had longer, it would be great to meet up with some of my girls. I'm sure I will have a blast with the family.

Jackie- My bro has his favourite taco stands too, but I will check out Misty's blog. I wish I was going to have more time there!

So happy for you, but now I will probably miss you. I'm planning on coming down to Isla the end of October. How long are you staying NOB?

Kathy- It has been soooo long since I've been in a Target, I may just swoon! :)

Heather- Who needs an excuse to come to Cancun? LOL! Get on down here girly (after hurricane season please!)

IslaGringo- I'm quite ecstatic myself, I know it's going to be a blast and I know I am going to cry buckets.

BBmama- I got a dress on Sunday, five hours of shopping later! I'm not a good shopper, I got dizzy and overwhelmed and took a lot of breaks, teehee. Once I get accessorized, I'll be a very happy girl!

Trixie- I'm not going long, leaving on Friday the 24th, returning on the Monday. Wish I could stay longer but somebody has to be mommy! Maybe we'll have a chance to connect while you are here!

Culture Queen- Oh definitely some big shades in order, lol! Getting the dress has made me feel semi-fabulous, just have to complete the outfit to feel like a princess!
