Zero Energy

I don't know what's wrong with me lately, I have no energy, nada, zip, zero. I'm starting to worry that I may be sick, though I don't really feel ill. I am sleeping a LOT. In bed every night around 10, wake up at 5:45. Back from work around 11, surf blogs a bit, then a little nap. Pick Max up at 2 pm, back home for more nap. Wake up around 5, back into bed by 10. What's with all the sleeping? Twelve hours a day?? And I never feel rested. I've been losing a lot of weight recently too, maybe it's time to shake up my diet or take vitamins or heck, get some exercise! It's been a long time since I have had a regular doctor "check up" too, perhaps my old friend anemia is back. The only time I have any energy is right after my giant cup of coffee in the morning and all that energy is thrown into my teaching then I crash right out again. Keeping my eyes open during some conversations is becoming difficult, I hate to appear like I am not listening, but my mind just shuts down and I hear "zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz".

I know that oversleeping can make you feel more tired, I just don't know how to break the cycle. Right now all I want to do is crawl into my bed and sleep until it's time to get Max, but I am forcing myself to stay awake. I'm going to take a vitamin and eat an apple instead of napping. But man, that sounds like a lot of work, all that biting and chewing, phew, exhausting just thinking about it! Something's got to give, I am just not productive like this, I feel horrible guilt when I sleep so much, but the draw of the pillow is too hard to resist sometimes. I scare myself when I am driving too, I find myself thinking "how the heck did you get here??" and realizing I have totally zoned out on the road.

Maybe this is just my body telling me I am getting old. Or that depression is rearing its ugly head again. Or to eat more vegetables. Or maybe it's just a phase where I need this much sleep right now and I will snap out of it soon. I guess the only way to tell is to make some changes or to see a doctor. For now I am not going to let myself nap today and see how I feel later on. My eyelids are drooping as I type though, so we'll see how well I stick to it.

it could just be the weather. this hotness is just zapping all the energy out of us over here too. even the simplest project is difficult to get done.

Vitamins - make doctor appt ASAP - good food - agree with Wayne..the heat.
Dr. KW's prescription

Doc appt. asap, blood work with a complete chemistry profile. Could be the extra heat but as you state this is different for you. This is more than body telling you "I am getting old"

Hope you fell better soon

Take care amiga. An aunt of mine down here (in Guate) is following under medical orders a triptophan rich diet to increase serotonin levels. Food is the best medicine, ah, that and sun and palm trees, I guess.

BTW, I've been visiting my family for just over a week and I already miss the TTC.
I'm sorry to hear that you don't feel well. Wow, there could be so many things making you feel that way. I hate to go to the doctor so rarely advise it to other people, but this sounds like you should go to see the doctor. It could be depression, mononucleosis, pregnancy and a whole list of other things. And then again you could just be plain old worn out. It happens. Take care of yourself.
regards,
Theresa

So sorry you're not feeling up to par. :( There are so many things it COULD be that a trip to the Doctor is probably the best idea.

Just be gentle with yourself until you find out what the problem is. If you are tired, sleep. It's your body's way of saying "I need to take a little break".

Hugs...

Hey cool kid- sounds like it could be the big D or as I call it under the bed cuz that's how it hits me personally sometimes... it could be a whole host of other things as well; especially mom of an active 3 year old boy syndrome!!!!

I think we might all be that tired after 3 consecutive years of rambunctious kidness!!

Maybe you should take a Cool Kid time out for your little self? Just a little weekend chilaxin' solo or with a fellow chilaxer.

Get a physical so you can rule out if the tiredness is caused from a physical health issue. Take everyone’s advice and take care of yourself.

That is how I was with both mono and typhoid but typhoid gives you other symptoms that you aren't typing. I would head to a laboratorio and get a blood panel. Then you can go to Similares and see if their 20 peso doc can tell you more than Dr. Google. I've had great luck with Dr. Google interpreting my results though.

Feel better!

IslaGringo- The heat can really getcha, but I think this might be a bit more than that. Maybe hurricane season/summer heat should be a project-free time, unless that project is drinking cold beers in a pool. :)

Dr. KW- I picked up some vitamins and some fresh fruit today and I even forced myself to eat some breakfast. Thanks so much for the email, very thoughtful of you!

Anon- I spoke to a doctor this morning and they gave me a list of the tests I should take. Problem is, one of the tests is almost 1000 pesos ($100 USD), so I may have to just start with the basics, I don't have the extra right now. At least the doctor is a student of mine and gave me a free "consult", she also said she would analyze the test results for free, so I am saving a bit of money there.

Manolo- How wonderful to see you here! Glad you are having some good times with la familia (I peeked at your FB). Triptophan eh? I know it's the "turkey drug" that knocks us out after a Christmas meal, interesting that it helps with serotonin. I'll start eating more turkey. And missing the TTC? Don't blame you, it's one of the best systems in the world!

Theresa- GACK, you mentioned the P word, lol! Pretty darned sure I'm not knocked up, mono I've had and I don't have any of the other symptoms that go with it. Depression? Good chance. I'm leaning towards anemia so I bought vitamins with extra iron today. And yep, I could just be plain old worn out! Thanks Dr. Theresa!

C.A.- Thanks for the hugs, I can always use those. Talking to my doctor/student this morning at least gave me some direction, she has the same guesses that I do, but we won't know anything til I get my butt to the lab for tests. And oh heck yes, I am very kind to myself and sleep when I want to, lol!

Lisa- Is that an offer to take Max for a few days? LMAO!!!! Just kidding of course. Some chillaxin with a fellow chillaxer sounds lovely. ;-)

Jackie- I'm working on it, thanks! I don't have a GP so usually just go the ER when I am REALLY sick so I was happy to talk to my student today.

Harvestmoon- Typhoid??? Yikes! Nope, no other symptoms (well, some gyne ones that might be related but those won't go on the blog, shhh). Must head to the lab, glad I got a list this morning, now if only I could afford to get them all done! Will start with the basics though. And I'm with you, Dr. Google is my first stop with lab results.

Trina- Hey lurker! Thanks for coming out of the woodwork! The thyroid test is the expensive one (800 pesos minimum so I've been told) and I just haven't got it right now. (Wanna buy a slightly used three year old? J/K!) Thanks girl, nice to see you here!

Momto3- Thanks amiga, will keep everyone posted. For today it was breakfast (soooo not my thing, I hate eating in the morning), vitamins and a chat with a doc so I am at least trying to do something about it. :)

Thanks to all!!
