The Comment Queen

The last couple of days there has been discussion in this "blogosphere" about commenting on blogs and bloggers replying to comments. La Gringa started it and Theresa jumped in with some thoughts of her own, as did HeatherinParadise. Interesting reading all around, I highly recommend checking them out (and the comments that follow). My take on blogging is that it is a communicative and interactive affair, I write, you respond, I reply to you. It's an open dialogue and far more interesting than simply reading what my point of view is. I make a great effort to reply to all comments, even if it is simply to say "Thanks for stopping in". It's friendly, it's warm and it feels nice when people do the same on blogs that I comment on. That said, if I have ever missed replying to one of your comments, perdoname, please forgive me, it was not a slight, more like early Alzheimer's. I really enjoy reading every else's comments on other blogs as well, it feels like a social event rather than just a solo venture, you feel like you are part of something bigger.

Now, all this was happening and I was commenting on how I try to keep up with comments, and what happens? I take a nap and wake up to find I have a new Queen of Commenting on my blog! Heather (not paradise Heather, the other Heather, mom to two fabulous toddlers), was traveling for a while and managed to catch up with my blog all in one afternoon, contributing 18 comments on 18 different posts!! Now, normally I would try to respond to each and every one, but with my ridiculously slow internet connection I will just do it right here.

So Heather, thanks for all your comments, I agree with everything you said and appreciate you taking the time to read and share back with me!
So, how many times did I use the word comment and what is a suitable synonym? I hate to be repetitious. :)

Kelly, comment or not .. I love reading your blog. However, it is a good touch to reach out to your readers. It's great that all of you keep me updated on Cancun and Isla.
Thanks for taking the time to do such a great job!

Funny... I'm just catching up on friend's blogs today. So, now I'm caught up, but I won't comment on each one to save you the multiple replies. hehe. But I do have to say that the de-monsterizing you did for Max is an adorable story!

GAH, now I feel like a real heel. And a jerky turkey. And a Rhymin' Simon.

KW- Thank you kindly maam! I really appreciate that you have taken the time out to email me as well as leave comments, it's nice to have "met" you. I'll try to hit the beach soon and get you some pics, you're probably in withdrawal as much as I am.

Lynda- Hey girl! Great to see YOU here, first comment si? Comment all you like, lol, I'll find a way to get to you.

Anon- Why, thanks! I like writing the things you are reading. ;-)

Heather- Why on earth would you feel bad? You always seem to answer your commenters and you have one of the most active comment sections of all the blogs I read. A big part of that is that you DO reply and participate in discussions with your readers, I don't think you have anything to feel bad about AT ALL. I think it's great that you have such a lively group of fans and you are very good at responding to even the negative comments. I think you are one of the best at the art of the comment, no reason to feel like a jerky turkey. :)

Comments and comments replying to comments, and even comments replying to comments that replied to comments - I think I can stop now, I must have said comments more than you... :)

They're all good though. It's nice if you get a conversation going. Blogging should be more than just journal keeping.

I've been pimping Disqus (http://disqus.com/) lately. You get loads of comments and being on a Blogger blog you would benefit more than most. I really recommend checking it out, because Bloggers comments system is a little bit lame!

Gary- Thanks for the link, I've just glanced at it and it looks cool! I'm thinking about a redesign, it might just fit.

Manolo- Un fuerte abrazo a ti amigo. :)

I am shocked to see a blog with an entire paragraph dedicated to me, lol! I love your blog and miss you on the forums. So by reading and commenting I feel you and I have spoke in some cyber way. I am one who wants to start replying to comments but in no way do I expect you to reply to all my comments. Like you said, I had missed a whole month and was just catching up. Thanks for the shout out though...

Heather- You earned your paragraph with your reading and commenting marathon! I'm glad we're still connected, though I have taken a forum hiatus. :)
The comment queen stopped by mine and she is really on fire!! LOL... Anyway, I wanted to comment about your view on "commenting".

Must of my readers, just go to my blog, read and sometimes comment, but not always.... I have around 35 visitors a day but they hardly comment. At first, I used to answer them (just because I remember you telling that to Sammy), but I was sure that people was actually coming back to read my answers... kwim? Then, I will think I told you something, that you actually never read... Sometimes when I get questions, I will answer them in that other person's blog, their email, and if I dont have any method of communication, I will just answer in the blog....

momto3- I know what you are saying, that's cool. I think readers just need to realize they can click the box that notifies them of any follow up comments and then they will get your answers for sure. Besides, you are EVERYWHERE on the net and your readers know where to find you. :)

Hmmm- I looked back on my blog and I don't always respond to comments, but now that I read your point of view, I think I will. I guess I just figured people were commenting- you know- putting in their two cents. I don't always remember to go back and check if people responded to me when I comment on their blogs, either. But I do go check out the blogs of the people who comment on my blog and often comment back to say thanks for visiting...
